Feed Fisheries Workshop Copenhagen June 10th 2009
Many small pelagic fisheries around the world show signs of notoriously overexploited stocks. Some stocks have been reduced to such low levels that commercial fishing are greatly reduced or halted indefinitely to allow for recovery without fishing pressure. This is an issue of sector wide interest and one that will need the active involvement of a broad range of stakeholders. The aquaculture industry uses a large and growing share of feed fish and global fishmeal and fish oil supplies. As such, these stakeholders play an important role in the future of these fisheries.
The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and The Organisation Danish Aquaculture (TODA) therefore hosted a one day discussion in Copenhagen on June 10
th
2009, to improve the joint understanding among key supply chain stakeholders of the current trends, the sustainability issues and the outlooks of the fish meal fish oil sector.
