WWF UK and WWF Germany are working with WWF CARPO on a 2 year EU-funded campaign (2010-2011) to raise awareness among EU consumers of the links between their consumption of timber products and the effects on communities and forests in the Congo Basin region.

I de østlige dele af DR Congo bliver skoven primært fældet for at levere tømmer til markeder i Østafrika. Det samlede areal af primært skovtab, som er knyttet til fældning i den østlige del af DR Congo skønnes at være på 99.000 ha løbet af de sidste fem år eller
ca 20.000 ha per år.
